Gelson’s Executive Sees Rewards From a ‘People’ Business

LOS ANGELES — The biggest reward a manager can receive is seeing people teach the lessons to others that the manager taught to them, Donna Tyndall, senior vice president, operations, for Gelson's Markets, Encino, Calif., said here this week in a speech to the Food Industries Sales Managers' Club.
"The grocery business is all about people, and more so than the money or titles, knowing you have had a positive impact on people is what makes you very happy." One of the lessons she's learned during her 36-year career with Gelson's, Tyndall said, is "that everyone is different, and it's a leader's job to figure out those differences and treat each one as an individual."
