Indoor farming company Gotham Greens is opening its first hydroponic greenhouse in Texas, making it the company’s 13th in the nation.
The 210,000-square-foot facility is located in Seagoville, about 20 miles southeast of Dallas. Along with the facility, Gotham Greens said it’s introducing a line of Texas-themed products, such as Lone Star Crunch lettuce.
Gotham Greens products are available at major retailers such as Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Amazon Fresh.
“Instead of shipping in lettuce and salad greens from California and Arizona, which provide more than 90% of all leafy greens in the country, Gotham Greens grows and delivers fresh, high-quality and longer lasting produce right in the heart of Texas using up to 90% less water and 97% less land compared to conventional open-field farming methods,” said Viraj Puri, co-founder and CEO of Gotham Greens, in a statement.
The company said it saves 300 million gallons of water a year compared to traditional field-grown farming.
