Marketside Set to Begin Interviews Monday

TEMPE, Ariz. — Wal-Mart Stores, Bentonville, Ark., will begin interviewing prospective employees Monday at its recruiting center here for the four small-format Marketside stores it plans to open in the Phoenix area in the fall. The company’s website, Marketside.com, describes the stores as “a small community grocery store owned by Wal-Mart Stores.” The website says the company is looking for meal specialists and pantry controllers; it apparently has already hired managers and assistant managers, the only other two positions mentioned on the site. According to the website, meal specialists will provide customer service across all operational areas of the store, including cashiering; food preparation and service; merchandising; and store presentation, as well as having “the opportunity to engage with customers, sharing cooking tips or providing recommendations for meal solutions”; pantry controllers, meanwhile, will receive and stock merchandise, reconcile invoices, manage ordering and replenishment, and be responsible “for coaching meal specialists.” The four stores — here and in Chandler, Gilbert, and Mesa, Ariz. — will be between 15,000 and 20,000 square feet.
