Meijer, Wal-Mart Launch Tax-Check Promotions

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer Inc. here yesterday said it would offer $30 coupon for every $300 spent on a Meijer Gift Card purchased in the month of May, joining several other retailers who have launched programs to get shoppers to cash their tax-rebate incentive checks at their stores. The rebates, in increments of $300, have begun arriving this week. Also Wal-Mart Stores yesterday said it would cash tax-rebate checks free of charge and would launch a series of “price rollbacks” on groceries and other consumables.
