MONTVALE, N.J. — The first location of Pathmark’s new “price impact” format opened Friday in Irvington, N.J., parent company A&P here said. As previously reported in SN, the new format, at a renovated Pathmark store, emphasizes low prices over a variety of items and departments creating a “destination price leader, where the customer basket is impressionably less expensive than conventional supermarkets,” according to a statement by Eric Claus, president and chief executive officer of A&P. The store offers a variety of value programs including increased variety of family sized packages; “Yellow Tag” price reductions; thousands of items on a “Price Hold” EDLP program; and weekly “Power Prices.” The store also features a new “bright and open” layout and modernized decor to improve the shopping experience, officials said.
