Publix ‘Well-Prepared’ for Outage

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets here was “well-prepared” for the massive power outage that left millions of people in Florida in the dark briefly last week, a spokeswoman for the chain told SN. The company had added auxiliary power generators at hundreds of stores over the last two years. “The glitch with the [Florida Power & Light] network had minimal impact on Publix,” Publix spokeswoman Maria Brous said. “We were able to test our generators.” She said 56 stores were affected for anywhere from one minute to 2 1/2 hours.
