Publix Pays $500 Million for 49 Albertsons

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets has agreed to pay $500 million for the 49 Florida Albertsons stores that it previously announced plans to acquire, according to a filing Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The purchase price was not reported when the deal was announced in June. The acquisition is scheduled to close next month, after which all stores will be converted to Publix over the following 18 months. The company said it plans to spend approximately $352 million on capital expenditures in the second half of the current fiscal year in addition to the acquisition.
