70% of All Recycled Grocery Bags Used in Deck Company’s Products

WINCHESTER, Va. — Seven out of every 10 recycled plastic grocery bags in the U.S. end up at a facility operated by Trex here, which uses them to manufacture decks, fencing and other outdoor living products, the company announced yesterday. On an annual basis, Trex incorporates 1.5 billion recycled grocery bags in its products, which are composed almost entirely of recycled plastic, wood scrap and sawdust, the company said. About 140,000 recycled bags go into making an average 500-square-foot deck, according to Trex.
