BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart’s Sam’s Club is planning to test a new warehouse store catering specifically to Hispanics and featuring products from Mexico, executives of the chain said at the company’s annual analyst meeting here yesterday. “Our objective is to create an additional shopping choice that provides currently unavailable value for families, restaurant owners, convenience stores and more,” Doug McMillon, president and chief executive officer of Sam’s Club, reportedly said in a statement. The new store, to be called Mas Club — “mas” is the Spanish word for “more” — will require a separate membership. It is scheduled to open in the first half of 2009 in Houston. The company also said it was looking at testing a smaller-format Sam’s Club, about 100,000 square feet, according to reports. Earlier this year it began testing Sam’s Club Business Center, a format exclusively for small businesses, also in Houston.
