Seattle Deliveries Returning to Normal
Jan 12, 2009 6:00 AM, By ELLIOT ZWIEBACH
SEATTLE Retailers here expect business to be back to normal in the next day or so now that the roads surrounding the Greater Seattle-Tacoma area all of which had been closed by floods the middle of last week have reopened.
The situation resulted from heavy snowfalls earlier this month, followed by uncommonly warm weather that melted the snow, creating floods that completely closed Interstate 5, the major north-south highway, plus three mountain roads east of the area bringing incoming grocery deliveries to a complete halt late Wednesday.
Area chains said they had adequate supplies for a few days, though perishables were beginning to run low before roads began opening again at mid-day Friday, local sources told SN.
