Wal-Mart Names New Diversity Officer

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here said yesterday it has named L. Mecole “Cole” Brown as the company's new chief diversity officer.
She will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of the diversity strategy for Wal-Mart’s U.S. business.
Brown most recently was vice president of employment practices at the retailer. She joined Wal-Mart’s legal team in 2002. She will report to Tom Mars, executive vice president and chief administrative officer, Wal-Mart U.S.
Brown succeeds Charlyn Jarrells Porter, who served as the company's first chief diversity officer from 2004-2009. Porter announced her retirement in March, after more than 16 years with the company.
In addition to her new role, Brown will continue to be responsible for the implementation of some key employment practices initiatives, the company said.
