Wal-Mart Halts Fresh Seafood Sales in Florida

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here has discontinued sales of fresh seafood in its Florida supercenter locations, according to a report in the St. Petersburg Times.

Company officials have said that declining demand was responsible for the move, and that the Gulf of Mexico oil spill did not play a role in Wal-Mart’s decision. However, published reports have speculated that rising seafood prices due to the spill may have been partly responsible for any recent slump in demand.
Wal-Mart will continue selling frozen seafood at its Florida supercenter locations.
