Wal-Mart Donates to Veterans Job Program

The Walmart Foundation said it has made a two-year, $750,000 grant to Veterans Green Jobs, a national nonprofit group that connects military veterans with employment opportunities in green sector jobs.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Walmart Foundation here said Wednesday it has made a two-year, $750,000 grant to Veterans Green Jobs, a national nonprofit group that connects military veterans with employment opportunities in green sector jobs.

Under the grant, Veterans Green Jobs will place 1,000 former military personnel through its training and employment initiatives with jobs — the latest commitment under the Walmart Foundation's five-year, $20 million giving initiative aimed at combating veteran unemployment, which is running at about 12%.

According to Mit Parsons, co-founder and chairman of Veterans Green Jobs, "We are thankful for the partnership we have forged with Walmart in leveraging career opportunities focused on environmental sustainability. We share a commitment to making veteran employment happen with 'boots on the ground,' one veteran at a time."
