Buehler’s singing contest among flurry of gas promos

Buehler’s Fresh Foods is allowing customers to vote for their favorite gas-station crooners for the chance to win a tankful of gas, one of several newly launched fuel-discount offers from food retailers around the country.

The Wooster, Ohio-based retailer is offering a $50 gas rewards sweepstakes through which customers vote on their favorite video of shoppers belting out tunes while gassing up their cars.

Here’s a sample:

The chain recently revamped its loyalty program to allow customers to earn discounts on both groceries and fuel through a partnership with gas retailer Speedway. It is promoting the “Singing at the Pump” sweetstakes through both Facebook and Twitter:

The promotion, which runs through Monday, May 26 — Memorial Day — is one of several gas promotions kicking off the summer travel season.

Kroger Co., for example, put together a video featuring four “mommy bloggers” showing how customers can maximize their fuel points to earn gas discounts. One blogger suggests buying gift cards to earn double fuel points, and another notes that more fuel points can be earned by filling out the survey on the Kroger receipt. The YouTube video was promoted on the chain’s Facebook page:

Adams Hometown Markets, an eight-store chain with locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts, has been running a gas sweepstakes tie-in with its Facebook page to encourage customers to “like” it.

Drugstore retailer CVS also has a free gas card promotion:

And San Antonio-based H-E-B is offering a special gas discount to kick off the summer, according to this report on caller.com in Corpus Christi, Texas:

Road trips may get a little easier this summer thanks to a returning H-E-B gas card promotion that cuts gas prices by 11 cents per gallon through Sept. 8, the website reported. By purchasing H-E-B gift cards, which have no activation fees and are reloadable, motorists can enjoy fuel savings through Labor Day.

And of course Walmart is in on the fuel-discount action with the return of the “Great Gas Rollback” that allows customers to save up to 15 cents per gallon at more than 1,000 Walmart and Murphy USA fuel stations through July 7. Here’s a report on the promotion via Planet Retail:
