Giant Food Offers Metro Cards for D.C. Commuters

Giant Food stores in and around Washington D.C. started selling SmarTrip cards, plastic reloadable fare cards used for Metro buses and trains, last week.

LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food stores in and around Washington D.C. started selling SmarTrip cards, plastic reloadable fare cards used for Metro buses and trains, last week. “We want all of our customers to use them as opposed to paying cash or buying a new fare card because it is faster and easier for the passengers,” Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato told SN. Metro partnered with Giant to make the cards more accessible to riders coming into D.C. from surrounding areas. The $5 cards are available at 26 participating Giant’s customer service desks as well as online, at Metro sales offices, commuter stores and vending machines at subway stations with parking facilities.
