REDBOX GETS RETAILER OF YEAR AWARD

ENCINO, Calif. — DVD rental kiosk provider Redbox Automated Retail, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., was named Specialist Retailer of the Year by the Entertainment Merchants Association here during its convention last month. Redbox machines are in many supermarket chains across the country including Albertsons, Kroger, Stop & Shop, Wegmans and Giant Eagle, in addition to outlets of McDonald's Corp., which has an ownership interest in the company along with Coinstar. By the end of August, redbox's market presence will exceed 4,800 locations nationwide, and the company has now rented over 50 million DVDs, said Greg Kaplan, chief executive officer. Target Corp., Minneapolis, was named EMA's Mass Merchant/Grocery Retailer of the Year.
