Redbox Kiosks Go Nationwide With McDonald's - OAKBROOK Ill.

After a two-year test, Redbox Automated Retail, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., and McDonald's USA here have entered into an agreement to offer automated DVD rental kiosks to a growing number of McDonald's restaurants nationwide, the companies reported last week. Redbox kiosks will begin appearing in McDonald's restaurants in select new U.S. markets in early 2007, offering McDonald's customers 60 to 80 DVD titles for $1 per night. McDonald's began testing the DVD rentals in 2004 in Denver. Today the kiosks are located in more than 800 McDonald's restaurants in the following six markets: Baltimore, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and St. Louis. The expansion follows agreements made by Redbox earlier in the month to offer kiosks in four supermarkets: Albertsons LLC, Hannaford Bros., Strack n' Van Til, Martin's and Chevy Chase Supermarket. Redbox is currently in over 1,400 total locations including McDonald's restaurants, Stop & Shop and Giant Food Stores and Smith's Food & Drug, a division of Kroger Co., Cincinnati.
