WASHINGTON — Asserting that retail health care clinics provide widely needed, easily accessible health care services, the National Business Group on Health here issued a position statement supporting employer use of the clinics for selected, urgent, non-emergency medical problems late last week. The National Business Group on Health is a non-profit association representing health insurance providers and it’s position comes at a time when the number of convenient care clinics is growing while some medical groups, including the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, are raising questions about the quality of care being delivered at retail clinics. “We don’t see any reason to exclude retail medical clinics from employer provided health benefits coverage as long as standards are in place and there is appropriate physician back-up and supervision,” said Helen Darling, president of the group.
