DERBY, Conn. -- The Griffin Hospital Pharmacy here has launched a talking prescription bottle to assist patients who are visually impaired or have a reading disability. The talking bottle was developed by MedivoxRx Technologies of Pittsburgh. Microelectronic technology is embedded in the base of each bottle, according to the company's website. "Rex the Talking Prescription Bottle" is now available at the hospital's pharmacy, Lisa Jaser, Griffin's director of pharmacy, told the New Haven Register last week. The pharmacists record the prescription information directly into in the bottle and the patient plays the recording at home and follows the instructions. Parish nurse representatives will be distributing brochures describing the pill bottles at area eye doctors' offices and at senior centers.
