Wal-Mart Opens 29 New Clinics

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores has doubled its commitment to in-store medical clinics with the openings of 29 new facilities reported this week.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores has doubled its commitment to in-store medical clinics with the openings of 29 new facilities reported this week. With walk-in treatment center provider CheckUps, New York, the retailer opened 14 new clinics in leased space inside Wal-Mart stores in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi as part of a grand-opening series yesterday. CheckUps already operates eight clinics in Wal-Mart stores in Florida and Mississippi. Meanwhile, SmartCare Family Medical Centers, Greenwood Village, Colo., has completed the build-out and openings of its 15 walk-in medical centers in the Denver area. SmartCare opened its first two Wal-Mart clinics in Colorado on Sept. 26, 2006, in Greeley and Loveland, and has since opened centers in Aurora, Brighton, Broomfield, Centennial, Denver, Lakewood, Littleton, Parker, Thornton and Westminster. This brings the total number of Wal-Mart clinics to 57, according to the company‘s retail clinic fact sheet and recent opening reports. The company has seven other clinic provider partners: MedPoint Express, My Healthy Access, RediClinic, Aurora Quick Care, Quick Health, Solantic and North Brodward Hospital District. “Wal-Mart serves as a destination for many people who can benefit from more convenient, affordable access to quality healthcare," said Alicia Ledlie, director of health business development for Wal-Mart. -- Wendy Toth
