Three Supermarkets Back E-Prescription Campaign

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Giant Food, Landover, Md., the Stop & Shop Supermarket Co., Quincy, Mass., and Supervalu Pharmacies, Franklin Park, Ill., are among 10 prominent retailers backing a national marketing campaign to boost awareness of electronic prescriptions, according to SureScripts here. An industry initiative, SureScripts operates the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange to facilitate secure electronic transmission of prescription information. The marketing effort will make signs available saying, “E-Prescriptions Filled Here,” and use a website — www.LearnAboutEprescriptions.com — to educate consumers. “We are pleased to see many drug store companies embracing this effort,” said Steven Anderson, president and chief executive officer, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, also based here. “Educating patients about the benefits of e-prescriptions and encouraging them to ask their physicians about e-prescriptions is an important step in helping to spread the word about how e-prescriptions improve the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care.” Among the other retailers participating are CVS/pharmacy, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Wal-Mart.
