SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — RPCS here expanded a $3 generics program to nine pharmacies in Food Pyramid stores in the Tulsa, Okla., area on “Black Friday,” Nov. 23. RPCS also celebrated the one-year anniversary of a $3 generics program inside its 20 Ramey, Price Cutter, Price Cutter Plus and Smitty’s banners, all located in Missouri. The discount applies to 30-day supplies of more than 250 drugs. “The time was right to launch the $3 generics program in our Tulsa-area stores,” said Rob Marsh, director of planning and development for RPCS. “When we purchased nine former Albertsons stores last July, we concentrated our efforts on establishing the Food Pyramid name and reputation, and we lowered prices on more than 10,000 products. During that time, we also took care of everything necessary behind the scenes to get the generics program put together so we could pass the savings on to our customers and help them fight the rising costs associated with health care.” Larry Storey, pharmacy administrator for RPCS, said that there isn’t a typical customer for the $3 generics program. “Senior citizens, as you would imagine, make up a large portion of customers taking advantage of the program,” Storey said. “However, we’ve found that everyone appreciates saving money. We’ve filled $3 generics for people from all walks of life and all age groups.” In the year since the program’s launch, RPCS’s pharmacists have filled more than 100,000 prescriptions from it, the retailer reported.
