PITTSBURGH — In a promotion that ends today, Giant Eagle went after multiple DVD sales by tying in the sale of specific titles to its popular fuel reward program. The two-week cross-promotion was advertised in both its weekly circular and an email, offering customers who bought any combination of four select DVDs from Warner Home Video, Burbank, Calif., an extra 20 cents off per gallon of gas. “In an effort to grow sales and multiple purchases, we worked with Warner on a way to add an extra incentive that others could not offer,” said Giant Eagle spokesman Dan Donovan. There were 90 titles in the promotion offered at two for $10, two for $20 and TV on DVD product for $19.95. “Today’s environment presents a perfect opportunity for supermarkets to tie in fuel centers with DVD purchases,” said Bill Bryant, vice president, sales, of distributor Ingram Entertainment, La Vergne, Tenn.
