Pfizer Assessing Viagra for OTC Sale
NEW YORK -- Pfizer here confirmed yesterday that it is considering making erectile dysfunction drug Viagra available over-the-counter. In a statement, the company said it "routinely" evaluates Viagra for the possibility of selling it without a prescription, as well as for other options. The statement followed a news report on Wednesday in The Business, a weekly magazine based in the U.K., which said the company was considering an over-the-counter launch for Viagra. "As with many of our products, Pfizer has routinely evaluated a number of options [for Viagra], including different formulations, new indications, over-the-counter, etc.," Pfizer said in a statement provided to Reuters. This is the first time that Pfizer has disclosed its interest in taking Viagra OTC, said a company spokeswoman, who declined further comment.Subscribe / Renew to Supermarket News
