Publix Free Antibiotics Plan Is Its Only Rx Program

LAKELAND, Fla. — The free generic antibiotics program announced by Publix Super Markets Monday was reported to have marked the end of its price-matching policy on Wal-Mart Stores’ $4 generic prescription deal, but Publix told SN yesterday that it never had a price-matching policy. The report appeared in Wednesday’s Orlando Sun Sentinel. “Pharmacists have taken care of the needs of customers who came to us from a discount program, but we have no companywide policy on that,” said Maria Brous, spokeswoman for the supermarket chain. Publix is now offering a selection of seven generic antibiotics for free at a 14-day supply. “The antibiotics program is the only official prescription program we offer. We can’t be all things to all people,” Brous said.
