Wal-Mart Surpasses Compact Fluorescent Goal Early

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here yesterday reported that it surpassed its goal to sell 100 million compact fluorescent light bulbs by the end of 2007. The campaign was launched last fall, the retailer said. “Selling 100 million CFLs in such a short timeframe is a significant achievement on behalf of our customers,” said Andy Barron, Wal-Mart senior vice president of hardlines merchandising. “In reaching this goal, we are grateful that our customers and members have seen the economic and environmental benefits of CFLs.” During the 100-million bulb campaign, the five states with the highest CFL sales were Texas, Florida, California, Illinois and Ohio, according to Wal-Mart.
