Kroger and Safeway should team up to take on Walmart.

"Always" is a very long time. I have been in the technology side of sales for the past 30 years. There was a day when no one would have envisioned a day when LOTUS 123, Wordperfect, and DBase III wouldn't be the leaders in their respective categories. Switching to the world of retail, I recall in the 70's and early 80's how dominant KMart was in their segment... now they are a shadow of what they were. Same goes for giants like Woolco, McCrory's and Ben Franklin Stores... all were huge players in the 20's-60's but are now just long forgotten names in the historical geneology of retail...So to say will Walmart always be here is to invite a conversation about how long are we talking about? Walmart is well managed and well run, and they have great prices... but they do have a soft underbelly in terms of being a one-size fits all concept. They will be with us for the next generation or more... unless something drastic pops up.

The younger generations will not continue to support WalMart and they company will fall.

I'm curious as to why you say the younger generation will fall away. It may be true (only time will tell), but what is it that will drive them away? Do you think it is perception as a "store for old people"... surely the variety, price, and relative convenience are not a problem... so what is it that is likely to cause this defection you see?

not unless other countries shut down their work forces that supply Walmart with the vast majority of their goods.

Until Walmart decides to get serious about marketing locally they will eventually loose out to the likes of Kroger and other retailers who do.
