There are all too many "investor groups" milking long-running succesful food retailers for that "quick buck" mentality. People who never worked one day in their life in a supermarket are now going to dictate what we buy, and how much to gouge us. They cannot lose with the very valuable real estate portfolios. How will the average food store worker and shopper benefit from this power grab?
I think it is unfortunate for all the great people that work there, who have contributed a great deal to the company and their communities. I love their Organics and healthy lifestyle concepts.
Kroger King????????? Wal-Mart is and always will be as they move down to destroy smaller city competition with new smaller stores.
Without some government help, you'll all be shopping at Wal-Mart if the marketing area justifies a grocery store within 10-12 years.
it's consumers who will be hurt most, less competition.
Private equity firms purchase property they expect can make money for their shareholders. It makes perfect sense for a private equity firm to merge chains together to save money, synergies, etc..
And to place themselves in better position to fight off competition like Walmart.
I think this will be the end of what was once a great company to have been associated with. What will have it will be split up and sold in pieces. I am sick about it. It looks like Kroger will be the King of the Hill (nation's grocery true retailers).
I think this could hurt So. Cal. Competition. Who would buy divestures?
