FYI people. Many Municipalities already require a License for Garage Sales and collect and forward Sales Tax to the State Dept of Revenue.
Anyone selling on a "REGULAR" basis should have to collect Sales Tax either online or bricks and Mortar.
Allowing someone to shop a local store then buy online tax-free is the lowest kind of treatment of local merchants
It surprises me to see so many people say "no"...How can someone support "local" retailers but support providing "online" retailers a competitive advantage? With sales tax ranging from 5%-14%, It sure does make it easier to achieve a better profit margin, especially when you factor in the cost of maintaining retail space vs. industrial.
If they are a major retailer, like amazon, yes. Sites like Etsy where you are doing individual-to-individual transactions like a garage sale, no.
