Amazon didnt initially have any experience in ANY of the retail categories it entered into but they figured out some fundamentals that every successful retailer has to adhere to in order to remain in business. However, Amazon Im sure is finding out the hard way that handling highly perishable food items requires a major overhaul in their business model which is geared toward manufactured items with a shelf life of 'forever'.
