LOS ANGELES -- The Southern California labor dispute gave a 47.8% boost to Arden Group's first-quarter sales of $148.4 million for the 13 weeks ended April 3. Net income rose 207.2% to $8.6 million compared with $2.8 million from last year's first quarter. loyees. Arden is the parent company of the 18-unit Gelson's Markets, which in March ratified a new labor contract similar to that reached by those supermarkets involved in the California labor dispute.
