STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Copps Corp. here celebrated National Apple Month by giving its customers a chance to win a trip for two to Italy.
"We just wanted to add some pizzazz this year. We've had contests in the department in previous years during Apple Month -- cash giveaways, and last year, a three-day cruise, but we've never given away anything this big," said Rod Sobczak, director of produce, for the 22-unit chain.
No purchase of apples is necessary to enter the drawing, but the announcement of the contest and an invitation to come to any of Copps' produce departments to fill out a short entry blank is included in a colorful ad that features 11 varieties of apples.
The ad in the retailer's circular occupies two and a half pages, a half page on the front cover, and two full pages inside that are dominated by large, full-color photographs.
The drawing for the prize will be held in one of Copps' stores in November. The contest is sponsored by one of the department's suppliers.
