Fred Meyer Names Golleher President

. here said George Golleher has been named president and chief operating officer of the holding company and was elected to the company's board of directors.

Robert G. Miller, 54, who had been president and chief executive officer, will retain the CEO title and add the title of vice chairman of the board.

Golleher, 50, was formerly president and chief executive officer of Food 4 Less Holdings, operators of Ralphs Supermarkets and Food 4 Less warehouse stores in southern California. Food 4 Less Holdings merged with Fred Meyer Inc. earlier this year. Golleher will report to Miller. The company did not name a successor to Golleher at Food 4 Less. In other changes at Fred Meyer Inc.:

David R. Jessick, 44, formerly vice president of finance and chief financial officer, was promoted to executive vice president of finance, reporting to Miller.

John Standley, 35, formerly senior vice president and chief financial officer for Food 4 Less Holdings, was promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer, succeeding Jessick. Standley will report to Jessick. The company did not name a successor to Standley.

Randall's Makes CEO Chairman

HOUSTON -- Randall's Food Markets here said last week Randall Onstead has added the title of chairman to his position as chief executive officer of the 117-store chain.

Onstead, who was president and chief executive officer, was named chairman earlier this month to succeed his father, Robert Onstead, who has retired but continues to serve on the company's board of directors with the title chairman emeritus.

The company said the position of president will remain vacant.

Randall Onstead, 42, began working full-time in 1978 for the company his father had founded, holding a variety of management positions at store level before being moving to the corporate office in 1981 as assistant grocery buyer. He became president and chief operating officer in 1986 and president and CEO in 1996.

Randall's, whose majority owner is Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., New York-based investment firm, operates 50 Randalls here; 55 Tom Thumb stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and 12 Randalls in Austin, with annual sales of approximately $2.4 billion.

Baker's Appoints Barton Manager

OMAHA, Neb. -- Baker's Supermarkets here said it has named Steve Barton to the new position of merchandising manager for its Oklahoma stores.

Barton, who has been with Baker's since 1981, will oversee grocery, dairy, frozen and produce merchandising at the five Oklahoma stores, which Baker's acquired last October. Barton was formerly produce merchandiser for the chain's Nebraska stores. The company has not named a successor. In his new position Barton will report to Bill Loneman, senior director of grocery marketing and merchandising.
