Kroger Co., Cincinnati, said Dennis Hood will retire from Fry's Food & Drug Stores, Phoenix, where he was president and chief executive officer since 1981. He will serve as chairman of Fry's executive committee until his retirement in May. The company said Michael J. Donnelly, vice president of merchandising at Fry's, has been named as Hood's successor.

Save-A-Lot, St. Louis, said David Hoover has been named to the new position of vice president/chief financial officer. He reports to Bill Moran, Save-A-Lot's president and CEO. Hoover was vice president of finance/corporate controller at Richfood, Richmond, Va., a company that was acquired last year by Save-A-Lot's owner, Supervalu, Minneapolis.
