f Maine here has named Patrick Flannery president and chief executive officer of the cooperative wholesale grocery distribution company. Flannery, formerly a senior vice president at Oakhurst Dairy, succeeded four-year President and CEO Michael Westort, who resigned in December, according to AG of Maine. With more than 30 years of sales, marketing and operational experience, Flannery, 58, will now report to the 12-person board of directors, of which he is also a member.
LOS ANGELES -- Directors of Unified Western Grocers here have elected Robert Lutz as vice president, procurement. In his new position, Lutz is responsible for all procurement activities associated with grocery, frozen and deli food categories throughout the company. He also leads negotiations with vendors while representing the independent retailer to the vendor community. He reports to Phil Smith, executive vice president and chief marketing/procurement officer. Lutz joined Unified in 1996 as director, merchandising, and before that he served as vice president, grocery merchandising, for three years at Weis Markets, Sunbury, Pa. Prior to Weis Markets, Lutz worked at Jewel Food Stores in Chicago for 20-plus years, starting as a store manager and ending as vice president, grocery merchandising.
PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway here said it named Douglas J. Mackenzie to its board of directors, effective March 10. He is a partner in Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a Menlo Park, Calif., venture-capital firm. He also serves on the boards of several technology companies. Mackenzie is a board member of the Stanford Engineering Advisory Council, and teaches part time at the Stanford School of Engineering.
