In the 39 weeks, sales rose to $186.3 million from $181.2 million. Net income fell to $2.2 million from $5.5 million, due in part to store opening costs, higher depreciation expense and nonrecurring union benefit credits, said Arden, which has 12 Gelson's and Mayfair stores.
