Food retailers are benefiting from connecting loyalty cards to airline and other travel-related rewards. In January, for instance, ShopRite, part of the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative, Elizabeth, N.J., launched a travel-reward program with Continental Airlines, Houston. For every $2 consumers spend using their ShopRite PricePlus card, they earn one Continental OnePass mile. Shoppers must accumulate $500 to qualify and earn 250 miles once they do.
