MONTVALE, NJ (FNS) -- A&P here said it will be rolling out mobile sales devices designed to get managers out of their offices and onto the sales floor.
Symbol's wireless LAN is being installed at each of A&P's approximately 750 stores and the company's 11 distribution centers. The infrastructure will be used for direct store delivery and receiving, ordering and shelf-price management.
Symbol added that it is also teaming up with the retailer to develop future in-store applications of this technology, including manager devices, customer kiosks and wireless streaming video.
"We expect to develop many technology solutions through our partnership with industry leaders," said Dan Grady, A&P director, retail information technology.
This technology is "a long-term investment for A&P," said Dwight Ogletree, Symbol vice president, retail marketing., "It allows A&P to run traditional in-store tasks with speed and accuracy and increases productivity"
The rollout of the devices is part of A&P's previously reported effort to upgrade its technology systems. In March, the company said it plans to spend $250 million over the next four years to develop a new supply-chain infrastructure.
