SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Services were held here for John "Jack" J. Heinen, president of Heinen's Super Markets, based in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. the chain's expansion from three to 11 stores. The company was founded by Heinen's father, Joseph Heinen, in 1929. Heinen, who spearheaded a number of programs for charitable causes, organized the Cleveland Foodbank. He had also been a minor league baseball player who drew acclaim by pitching 17 consecutive hitless innings in one game.
