NGS, Fla. -- Services were held here last week for Daniel Newman, former president of Fairchild Publications, New York, SN's corporate parent. He was 82. Newman joined Fairchild in 1956 as an advertising salesman for Electronic News. Within four years, he was advertising director of that newspaper. In 1968, he was promoted to Fairchild's vice president and Midwest director. Two years later, Newman was named senior vice president as well as publisher, Electronic News and Metalworking News. In May 1980, he became Fairchild's president. When he retired from that position in 1986, the company enjoyed its most profitable year to date. A memorial service is being planned in the New York area, tentatively scheduled for June.
