licensed its shared-transaction fee software to six distributors, said Des Walsh, vice president and general manager of the Disney subsidiary.
"The distributors that we have represent about 90% of the distributor-serviced business in the United States in terms of market share," said Walsh. The six are Ingram Entertainment, La Vergne, Tenn.; Major Video Concepts, Indianapolis; Video Products Distributors, Sacramento, Calif.; Baker & Taylor, Morton Grove, Ill.; ETD Entertainment Distributing, Houston; and MS Distributors, Hanover Park, Ill.
"We envisage that existing SuperComm accounts will choose to order revenue-sharing product under these distributor programs," said Walsh.
Eight suppliers are now participating in the Ingram version of the program: Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Burbank, Calif.; Columbia TriStar Home Video, Culver City, Calif.; MGM/UA Home Entertainment, Santa Monica, Calif.; Warner Home Video, Burbank; HBO Home Video, New York; New Line Home Video, Los Angeles; Trimark Home Video, Santa Monica, Calif.; and Monarch Home Video, which is owned by Ingram and also based in La Vergne.
Meanwhile, Rentrak Corp., Portland, Ore., a competitor of SuperComm's, also is setting up agreements with distributors to handle shared-fee programs. Rentrak has deals with four distributors: Major Video Concepts, Baker & Taylor, ETD, and Video One Canada Ltd., Toronto, a Rentrak official reported.
