WASHINGTON -- A South Korean animal quarantine committee last week postponed a decision on resuming U.S. beef imports, disappointing American beef industry interests. South Korea's quarantine committee is scheduled to reconvene this month. Korea was the third-largest market for U.S. beef and beef variety meats. In 2003, the United States exported more than 245,000 metric tons of beef and beef variety meats to Korea, valued at more than $814 million, officials at the American Meat Institute said.
