SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- Village Super Market here said net income jumped 104% to $284,000 in the 13-week first quarter ended Oct. 26, from $139,000 a year ago. lower depreciation and interest costs plus improved gross margin, which was boosted by an enhanced product mix, the 22-unit ShopRite operator reported. Remodeled stores lifted same-store sales, though the closing of a store in Florham Park, N.J., trimmed net income, the company added.
