Of all things, Tide laundry detergent has become a high-theft product. New York Magazine reported on a Maryland Organized Retail Crime Unit’s investigation into grocery store robberies of Tide. Brand loyalty and high prices have caused Tide to remain desirable despite economic trends, as robbers trade Tide for money or drugs from clients or small shops seeking to rake in more profit from Tide sales.

The CDC reported earlier this month that 29 states and New York City are reporting high levels of influenza-like-illness. Sales in medicines and related products are spiking. Cough-and-cold marketer Reckitt Benckiser saw sales increase 22% for the four weeks ending Dec. 22, compared to the previous year’s sales, according to Advertising Age's report on sales of cough-cold products.
Three lawmakers sent letters to energy drink companies, requesting information on product ingredients and related studies, according to The New York Times.
Chicago Alderman Edward M. Burke proposed banning the sale and distribution of energy drinks containing 180 milligrams or more of caffeine per container — a move that sounds similar to NYC’s “soda ban” based on cup or bottle size.
This comes after the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration released an update last week on emergency department visits involving energy drinks, which doubled from 2007 to 2011.
