Though most Thanksgiving dinners will revolve around a turkey this year, some may prefer another option, whether because of taste, dietary restrictions or different traditions.
In fact, 10% of Gen Yers plan to forgo turkey, according to an online survey conducted by Tada!
Some retailers have answered the call with alternative meals and recipe ideas.
As part of Raley’s Thanksgiving meal menu, customers can instead choose bourbon maple glazed ham, prime rib or butternut squash ravioli. All meals feed six to eight people and come with a variety of sides, rolls and dessert.
Meals range from $59.99 for the ravioli and ham to $109.99 for the prime rib.
At PCC Natural Markets, vegetarians can order a Hazelnut Cranberry Field Roast En Croute, asubstitute wrapped in puff pastry. The meal comes with mushroom gravy, sides and a pie and costs $69.99 for four to six people or $99.99 for eight to ten people.
PCC also offers a “sides only” option that includes a selection of sides, gravy and rolls but no pie. The cost is $49.99 for four to six and $89.99 for eight to ten.
Throughout November Stew Leonard’s has been answering customer holiday cooking questions on its Facebook page. One fan asked for a fish suggestion as she dislikes turkey and red meat, so Stew’s recommended a salmon filet with cider spiked apples and onions.
For those that avoid eating animals altogether, Whole Foods Market lists a dozen vegan meal ideas — including harvest vegetable shepherd’s pie and roasted cauliflower steaks — on its holiday recipe page. The retailer also includes vegetarian and gluten-free recipes.
