MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar Stores here said Thursday that sales during the fiscal second quarter, which ended Feb. 28, increased by 8.7% to $2 billion. Sales were driven by double-digit growth in consumables, including food, with apparel sales soft, the company said.
