ARLINGTON, Va. — The Food Marketing Institute here and GS1 US, Lawrenceville, N.J., will be releasing a “revised and updated version” of FMI’s Product Recall Portal this fall, said Robert Carpenter, chief executive officer, GS1 US.
The updated version will be launched “with a number of enhancements which are still in the testing phase,” added Kathleen Thomas, a spokeswoman for FMI.
Initially launched in January, the Recall Portal was designed to allow rapid and secure communication of standardized and comprehensive recall information from manufacturer to retailers. It has been used in several recall situations since March, said Thomas.
The number of retailer/wholesaler subscribers to the portal has grown to 52 as of July 9, from 38 in January; the number of manufacturer/supplier subscribers has increased to 40 as of July 9, from just three in January.
