ALEXANDRIA, Va. — In another indication of the growing momentum for e-prescribing and other electronic medical records, SureScripts here and RxHub, St. Paul, Minn., said last week that they have merged.
Both were formed in 2001: SureScripts by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and the National Community Pharmacists Association, both here, and RxHub by leading prescription benefit manager companies, such as CVS Caremark Corp., Woonsocket, R.I., Express Scripts, St. Louis, and Medco Health Solutions, Franklin Lakes, N.J.
SureScipts has focused on e-prescribing while Rx Hub has expertise in patient identification and delivering drug benefit information to physicians.
Initially, the combined entity will be known as SureScripts-RxHub and will be run by the current acting chief executive officers, Rick Ratliff of SureScripts and J.P. Little of RxHub, and maintain its two office locations.
“The combined strengths of the two organizations will enable the delivery of a single suite of services that will dramatically improve the safety, efficiency and quality of one of the largest segments in health care,” said Bruce Roberts, executive vice president and CEO, NCPA.
