PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here denied that its decision to discontinue its PowerPump fuel rewards program at most of its stores is related to a patent infringement suit filed by Excentus, Irving, Texas in June. “Our decision about the PowerPump program has nothing to do with the lawsuit,” said Safeway spokeswoman Teena Massingill. “We launched PowerPump a year ago when gas prices peaked.
