LOUISA, Ky. — A K-VA-T Food City store here chalked up record sales with a Midnight Madness promotion it ran last Friday.
Produce sold completely out of Fresh Express 12-ounce bags of garden salad. Not a big surprise since the retail price had been dropped to 77 cents.
“People were taking the bags out of the box as we were trying to restock the shelf,” Lequitte Perry, produce manager, told SN.
“Midnight Madness is becoming a huge success. This last one was our best ever in produce, and store-wide.”
Produce also sold out of 8-pound bags of russet baking potatoes, priced at $2.77.
“We know we’re going to have a lot of traffic so we order so much product that we usually don’t sell it all that same day,” Perry said.
The Midnight Madness events, launched about a year ago, are usually scheduled for the last Friday of the month, and run from 4 p.m. until midnight. Since it’s a chainwide event, corporate K-VA-T tells each department what products to put on sale.
Other fresh department sale items this time included deli-made coleslaw for 77 cents a pound, and Armour hot dogs, a 12-ounce package for 77 cents.
“It’s a good way to try to boost end-of-month sales, and our sales this time were a record for Midnight Madness promotions,” store manager Adam Baldridge said.
